Alaska Fishing ~ Coho / Silver Salmon

Posted on September 19, 2024April 7, 2025 by guides@akrainbow.com

Alaska’s Goodnews and Kanektok rivers are famous for their exceptional Coho salmon fishing. Our float fishing trips on these rivers offer an unforgettable experience for anglers of all skill levels.

Coho salmon, also known as “silvers,” are popular for their strong fighting spirit and acrobatic leaps. They are abundant in the SW Alaska waters you can float with us; they are a great choice for experienced and novice anglers.

Coho salmon are also known for their mild yet flavorful taste and are visually appealing due to their distinctive silver scales and vibrant colors. They migrate later than other salmon species, extending the fishing season and providing opportunities for anglers.

The prime time for Coho salmon fishing on both rivers is from late July to mid September. The average size of Coho salmon is 10-15 pounds, and fishing techniques include fly fishing, spinning, and baitcasting. The trips we offer are set in a wilderness with abundant wildlife, providing excellent opportunities not only for Coho salmon but also for rainbow trout, grayling, and char fishing.

We have limited dates each season that coincides with the Silver Salmon runs; learn more at www.kanektokriveralaska.com / www.goodnewsriver.com / www.akrainbow.com
